Resident, Fellow, and Trainee Updates

We are excited to introduce our new residents and fellows who will be joining the UMMC Department of Dermatology. Also, see updates, provided below, on our current residents and medical student trainees. In addition, we are pleased to report that our recent residency and fellowship accreditations were passed with flying colors. We also received permission to increase our total residency slots to a maximum of 15 on January 6, 2023.

Welcome New Residents

Please join us in welcoming our new residents and fellows who will be joining UMMC Dermatology. Drs. Sarah Eley, Sarah Fillingim, Summer Morrisette, Rachel Wilkinson, and Cody Estep will join UMMC as dermatology residents in the summer of 2024 after completing their PGY1 year. Dr. Tyler Marion will also join UMMC Dermatology in the summer of 2023 as a Mohs Fellow.

Sarah Eley, MD

Sarah Eley joins us from Akron, Ohio. She graduated with honors from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She then matriculated at Northeast Ohio Medical University where she earned her medical degree. During medical school, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the Ted Voneida Neuroscience Award and the Howard J. Igel, M.D. Scholarship. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys outdoor activities, spending time with friends and family, reading, drawing, and taking care of her cat Leo.

Cody Estep, MD

Cody earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from Centre College in Danville, KY before attending the University of Kentucky College of Medicine where he earned his medical degree. During medical school he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.  Outside of work, Cody enjoys glass blowing, snowboarding, and sports.

Sarah Fillingim, MD

Sarah Fillingim joins UMMC from Mobile, AL where she lives with her husband and three children. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Troy University before receiving a masters in environmental toxicology from the University of South Alabama. She then earned her medical degree from the University of South Alabama’s College of Medicine. During medical school, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and served as the president of the Gold Humanism Honor Society.  Outside of work, Sarah enjoys running, baking, playing board games, and watching her son play basketball.

Summer Morrissette, MD

Summer joins UMMC from Charleston, SC. She graduated with honors from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She then earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. During medical school, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Outside of work, Summer enjoys reading, traveling, and watching Alabama football.

Rachel Wilkinson, MD

 

Rachel currently resides in Jackson, MS. She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in biology before earning a master’s in biological and health sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She then earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. Outside of work, Rachel enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their golden retriever, playing pickle ball, and traveling to visit friends and family.

Tyler Marion, MD

Tyler earned both his bachelor’s degree in biology and master’s degree in business administration from Texas Tech University. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. During medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Outside of work, Tyler enjoys sports, travel, and watching movies.

2023 Resident Retreat

In recognition of their dedication to dermatology and tireless efforts, Dr. Jeremy Jackson recently took our residents on a bowling retreat that included a residency review followed by dinner and fellowship at Highball Lanes in Jackson, MS. Thank you to our residents for all that you do!

Dermatology Interest Group – SPOTS Education

On March 29th, six UMMC medical students affiliated with the UMMC Dermatology Interest Group went to Spann Elementary to give a presentation on safe skin practices to 5th graders. Educational material was provided by Sun Protection Outreach by Students (SPOTS), an organization founded by medical students in Saint Louis, Missouri. SPOTS now has chapters all across the US.
